Marilyn Monroe (1936-1962)

Marilyn Monroe, born Norma Jeane Mortenson, was an American actress, model and singer, and became a major sex symbol, starring in numerous successful films during the 1950’s and 1960’s. She was found dead in her bedroom at the age of 36 by ”probable suicide”, and has later become one of the most debated conspiracy theories of all time.
Monroe was known for her iconic appearence. Her signature makeup look consisted of flawless skin, false eyelashes, dark eyeliner and full, red lips. Her life and her beauty is still celebrated today.

Elizabeth

Queen Elizabeth (1533-1603)

Queen Elizabeth ruled England from 1558 to 1603. She was the daughter of Henry VIII, and was the fifth and last monarch of the Tudor dynasty. She remained unmarried her whole life and for that she earned the nickname ”The Virgin Queen”.
During the Elizabethan era light hair and pale skin was considered as true beauty. Though Elizabeth had the natural attributes of this ideal, she enhanced and exaggerated the image by using white make-up. This make-up consisted of white lead and vinegar, which unfortunately made it poisonous.

Cleopatra

Cleopatra VII (69-30 BC)

Cleopatra VII Filopator, known through history only as Cleopatra, was the last queen and pharao of the Ptolemaic dynasty of Ancient Egypt. She ruled from 51 to 30 BC and eventually comitted suicide by making an Egyptian cobra to bite her.

In most depictions, Cleopatra is portrayed as a great beauty, and her conquests of that eras most powerful men are taken as proof of her beauty and sex appeal. In her time, cosmetics were commonly used by people of high social standing, and was mainly focused around the eyes with the use of black kohl to line the eyes. Cleopatra also used a bright blue paste on her lower eyelids.
